How to Scan Photo Albums Into Digital Photos

14, Jun 2016

Boxes of printed photographs & photo albums are common in many household closets and storage spaces. While they are not being ‘used’ or accessed frequently, people don’t want to toss them out because they represent the family’s history and memories. However, unless properly preserved, photos will degrade over time. That’s why many people opt to convert physical photos to digital photos.

With advances in technology, increasing choices are available regarding our photo memories. While digital photography might be the new norm (not to mention a whole new world of digital file chaos), converting your physical photographs is easier than ever. The latest apps on the market will let you digitalize your photos and electronically save your history to preserve your cherished family memories for generations. More importantly, in a digital format, you can share with your entire family instead of only having one paper copy.

How does scanning your photos work?

You can either use a smartphone app or a desktop scanner to convert your photos to digital format. Before you start, however, decide how to name the files you create because no one knows the value of a file you named IMG_6478.jpg. Next, decide where you will store your photos. You could use an external hard drive or a cloud drive. If you’re using an app service to store your images, be sure you understand how to extract them should the service decide to close.

It’s amazing what technology can do. Every day, something catches my attention and it never ceases to amaze me how accessible our lives are becoming.
