Bread clips, toilet paper rolls, tissue boxes… we all have them, so put them to good use.  Here are a few simple household items that you can re-purpose to help you organize your home and cost very little- or nothing at all!

Clear Shoe Boxes

2016-07-25 07.47.00There’s no better way to store rarely worn shoes than in these great plastic containers.  But they are fantastic for other things too like crafts and crayons.  Plus, they’re stackable.  Find these handy items at stores near you like Canadian Tire and Walmart.

Toilet Paper Rolls2016-07-25 07.47.13

Everyone has empty toilet paper rolls.  A great way of re-purposing these is by using them to organize all your cords.  If you don’t want to use the original, make it decorative using coloured or construction paper to cover it up.  Another useful tip is to place markers in them and store these rolls in a shoebox.  It’s now easier for kids to identify the markers they want.

Bread Clips

2016-07-25 08.13.42How many of these do we have in our junk drawers?  Well, here is a second life for them:  label all the pesky cords under your desk.  Simply identify and mark what electronic device they belong to and clip them on the end of the cable.  Tada!  You’ll never unplug the wrong cord again.

Pants Hanger2016-07-25 07.54.07

Turn an unused pants hanger into a magazine holder.  This is a great way to free up space on counters and side tables.  Hang the holder on a hook behind the door in your bathroom.

Tissue Boxes

2016-07-25 07.54.46Don’t recycle your next one– these boxes can make awesome plastic bag dispensers!  Stuff one in the box and loosely loop all the remaining ones together one by one.  Pull them out as you need them.

Plastic Magazine Holders2016-07-25 07.55.27

These are great vessels for the kitchen too.  Aluminum foil and cling wrap boxes fit neatly inside and stay contained in your cupboard.  Plus, they are great for holding loose items like water bottles.  You can even attach them to a wall inside your pantry or cupboard door if you wish.  Find them in a variety of styles at any stationery store like Staples.
