Dreaming of neatly folded clothes, a made bed and a clean floor? Well, kids are not organized by nature. Keeping children’s rooms organized can be a challenge. It’s up to adults to create systems that will eventually become habits for children. Here are some simple tools and tricks that can help your kids be successful.

Hooks

Hooks are a great solution for clutter woes. In the kids’ rooms, clothes can be everywhere. Previously worn items often don’t have a dedicated space and are dropped on the bedroom floor. A simple solution is to hang a series of hooks on the wall. Do not install them too high. Aim for your child’s eye level, so they will know to use them. Encourage your child to hang up clothing that doesn’t need to be washed immediately.

Hampers

Hampers are incredibly useful so make sure there’s one in every bedroom. With a hamper, you can almost guarantee kids will keep their soiled clothes off the floor. Want to make it fun? Install a basketball hoop above it.

Baskets and Bins

Lots of toys? Corral them in baskets or bins to free up the floor. This is a simple solution that can help kids tidy up their rooms in mere seconds. Add labels so kids know which toys belong in which bin. Use pictures of the contents with the words to help children who are learning to read.

Books

We want children to read daily and find just the right book quickly. If you don’t have a standard bookshelf for books, get creative with other containers and bins. Just make sure the book bindings are facing up so you can identify the title. Magazine holders are great too because they come with single or multiple cubbies and can double as a bookend.

It’s not too hard to keep children’s rooms organized. Just develop simple usable systems and solutions that are easy for them to use.
