If you missed my segment on Breakfast Television Vancouver, please read on for some tips on how to Create a Family Command Centre!

Family life can be chaotic, so it’s great to have a central hub or “command centre” where everyone can keep track of what’s going on. A command centre can be in the kitchen, at the front door or wherever works for a busy family. Also, it can be as big or as small as you need. Luckily there are lots of products on the market that can make our lives easier and more organized.

Family Calendar

Although we live in the digital age, nothing compares to posting a big wall calendar that everyone can access. We likely have apps for sports and other activities but, with a family calendar, everyone can see what’s going on. Use a coloured sticker coding system on the dates to differentiate each child, each sport, or whatever works for you. A dry erase wall decal calendar is another great option. These can be re-positioned and wiped clean regularly.

Message Centre

There are a variety of boards you can easily install in your command centre: cork, dry erase, magnetic or chalkboard. Leave messages for the family or even reminders for yourself. You can get very creative too. Use chalkboard paint to paint directly on the wall, or even inside a door. This paint comes in lots of great colours now!

Catch-all Spot

Put everything you need to reference in one place. Display artwork, invitations or school notices. Find some wall pockets to house the (always-missing) scissors, pens, glue stick etc. Also, use hooks to hold keys or other hanging items. There are lots of strong hooks that temporarily stick to the wall. Simply remove them when you need to.

Inject colour and have some fun. Contact Out of Chaos to help you get organized for fall!
