Getting Out of Chaos

05, Oct 2008

I was happy to join Fanny Kiefer of Studio 4 to discuss getting out of chaos. As the founder of Out of Chaos, my goal is to help you reduce stress and simplify life. We can do this if we clear the clutter on desks, at home, and at the office.

We briefly go through Julie Morgenstern’s S.P.A.C.E. process for organizing.

Sorting is the first step. Bring like items together so you know what you have.

Purge items you do not feel bring value to your life. Give yourself permission to have a pile that you are not sure about. You can always come back later to review and make decisions.

Assign homes for items so you can find them when you need them.

Containers should be chosen for function first. Look at how much you have, where you are storing it and how often you need to access it. Choose containers that meet these criteria.

Evaluate your system on a regular basis. It might not be quite right the first time. That’s okay. Just keep adjusting your system so it works for you.
