vintage labels - add them to your containers to avoid labelling limbo

We learned how important labelling was in kindergarten when teachers labelled our cubicles in the cloakroom. We would leave our coat, hat, and mittens in the designated spot with our name on it. You would not dream of placing your coat in someone else’s spot. But why do adults dread such a simple task? Are they afraid of making a commitment in case it might be wrong? We wait for the perfect solution and end up living in limbo. Call it Labelling Limbo.

A label is ‘a slip (as of paper or cloth) inscribed and affixed to something for identification or description.’ Adding labels to your containers is a very simple, yet important task. It helps you to keep organized after you get organized.

There are so many labelling styles and options on the market, that there is no need to hold back. Let your creativity loose. Remember that nothing is forever. Change labels as you and your possessions change.

Non-stick removable labels will help you overcome the feeling of “permanence.” This alternative to label maker tapes can provide you with different shapes and colours to suit your tastes. You can use labels almost anywhere in the home or office.

Labelling in the Office

While there are many products to help you organize your supplies, information, and resources in the office, all will be wasted if they are not labelled appropriately. Binders, bins, boxes, and file sorters are all rendered useless if you don’t know what is inside. Don’t stop at “pretty.” Add a label so that your valuable resources can be found when you need them.

Labelling in the Kitchen

In the kitchen, labels help you easily find what you have on hand that you have placed in containers. Never put salt in sugar ever again. I personally have a plastic container in my fridge where I collect the open groceries (ie cheese, spreads, sandwich meats) so that it is easier to grab and they don’t spoil as fast. It is labelled “open food” and I know that I need to keep an eye on them.

Labelling in the Playroom

In the playroom, labels help your children know exactly where to put their toys so tidying up is a habit that you can reinforce – the same concept they teach at school. Choose colourful labels and get creative. In fact, the Avery website offers downloadable label templates. No more struggling to fit your creations on a page by yourself.

Labelling in Crafts Room

In the crafts room, it’s divide and conquer. Sort your supplies into containers and add labels. You and your children will have easy access to the right art supplies for that big drawing project and cleaning up will be a breeze.

Don’t get overwhelmed with the idea of getting organized. Take the time to sort through your household items: donate what you don’t need; throw out what’s old, expired, or broken; sell or auction what is still in good condition. Then, group what you keep into categories and Label, Label, Label!
