weekend packing tips for cottage in mountains by lake and woods

Last year I was interviewed by Jackie Davis at Cottage Life magazine for their Cottage Q&A column. I provided weekend packing tips for the cottage.

My tips to help simplify and organize packing and unpacking include:

Reduce the amount of stuff you have to take back and forth. Make a list of what you have at the cottage or take a picture on your phone, so you’ll know what you need to take and what you don’t. Consider having a second set of items to leave at the cottage (pantry staples, phone chargers, hiking boots, etc.).

Plan your meals to you know what you need to take. This helps prevent overbuying, impulse buying, and food waste.

Designate bags or suitcases for dirty clothes only. Take these bags directly to the laundry area as soon as you arrive home.

Create a list of the stuff that absolutely must go. Keep those items pre-packed by the entry or in the trunk of the car.
